Comments on Natsubasho in 1999

Day 15 (Senshu Raku). Tosanoumi got Shukun Sho, but was defeated by Kotonishiki. Because he has the Kachikoshi score, 8-7, he will be a sanyaku in the next basho. Ooikari got another win, so his score is 7-8. Kitakachidoki got 10th win, so he will be positioned higher rank in Jyuryo devision in the next Basho. Fujikawa in the Jonidan devision got four consecutive wins after three consecutive losses.
Day 14. Tosanoumi pushed Kyokushuzan out, and got Kachikoshi. Ooikari, whose father came from Kyoto, lost today and got Makekoshi. Kitakachidoki pushed Mainoumi at the end of the Dohyo, but was defeated by Kubinage. He has three consecutive losses. We have two monoii: Aratobi's bout and Matsuda's bout. Fortunately they both got Shiro-Boshi, or win.
Day 13. Tosanoumi defeated Tokitsuumi by Yoritaoshi, resulting him 7-6. Ooikari lost his bout against Ootsukasa. Now he is 6-7. One more loss makes him Makekoshi. Kitakachidoki lost his bout against Kotoinazuma who is also a matured rikishi. His socore is 9-4, and he is a second leader in the Jyuryo devision. Under Makushita we have only two fights today. Because Kimura-brother both losses, we have no winners today under Makushita devisions.
Day 12. Today, Tosanoumi got a win by default, because Tochinonada was injured in the previous bout. Ooikari performed a bout after Nakairi, but he lost. Kitakachidoki was defeated by Asanowaka. Araumi (Sandannme), Aratora, Fujikawa, Ootsukuba and Kitanogo are in a score 3-3. We expect them to have a good bout.
Day 11. Tosanoumi looks in a bad condition in these days, and has three straight losses, resulting him 5-6. Kitakachidoki won and became 9-2. He is a co-leader in this Natsu Basho. Arauma, 36th of Makushita, got fifth win. This is a chance for him to be placed on a higher Makushita devision. Okinoryu, 14th of Jonidan, was injured on the Dohyo by his rigament. He will be in hospital for a few months.
Day 10. Tosanoumi could not defeat youngersekitori, Miyabiyama. He is in tie, 5-5. Kitakachidoki kept two losses. Arauma (Makushita) and Tokkaizan (Jonidan) got fourth wins, so they are Kachikoshi.
Day 9. Tosanoumi was defeated by Kaio with Shitate Dashi-Nage. It was a very rare Kimarite for Kaio. Kitakachidoki lost his bout against younger rikishi, Takanowaka. Ooikari was defeated by Susanoumi. All the Sekitori lost today. Oginome and Kimurakawa, newcomers in Haru Basho, got fourth losses. They are Makekoshi.
Day 8. Tosanoumi defeated Takatoriki by Yorikiri, resulting him 5-3. Ooikari, tried to push Kinkaiyama out, but he couldn't, and was forced out. He is 4-4. Kitakachidoki, performed good Ottsuke with a left arm, and forced out, resulting him 7-1. He seems to be a very good condition in this Basho. Below Makushita, we have no rikishi with all wins, but Aratobi and Aratora got third wins today. Kimuraumi in the Jonokuchi devision got his first wins.
Day 7. Tosanoumi stood Chiyotenzan's Henka, or change, at Tachiai. He defeated Chiyotenzan by Uwate-hineri, or twisted Uwate-nage, resulting 4-3. Kitakachidoki also won today, resulting 6-1. He and Takanowaka are tie for a first place in Jyuryo. Kimurakawa in Jyonokuchi got his first win today. Fujikawa in Jyonidan also got Shiroboshi in this Basho. Arauma (Makushita), Raizann (Sandanme), Tokkaizan and Kokubushu (Jyonidan) got three wins, so one more shiroboshi make them Kachikoshi.
Day 6. Tosanoumi and Akinoshima played a strong Tachiai, then Akinoshima pulled Tosanoumi down. This is similar to the bout in the previous Basho. Tosanoumi's score is tie: 3-3. Ooikari also became tie: 3-3. Kitakachidoki won by Saka-tottari, resulting 5-1. Kokubushu in Jonidan got three straight wins.
Day 5. Tosanoumi defeated Dejima, resulting 3-2. Both played strong Tsukioshi, then Tosanoumi holded a right uwate and pushed Dejima out. Kitakachidoki's score was 4-1. Now, Kiakachidoki and Takanowaka is tie for a top place in Jyuryo.
Day 4丏Tosanoumi was defeated by Musashimaru whose condition in this Basho is excellently good. Ooikari becomes tie, two wins and two losses. Kitakachidoki could not achieve four consequtive wins, resulting 3-1. Ootsuna and Raizan in Sandanme got two straight wins. I hope they can keep on their good condition.
Day 3. Tosanoumi defeated Wakanohana and got 10th Kinboshi. Ooikari got his first won in Natsu Basho. Kitakachidoki made three straight wins. Below Makushita, Arakuma and Fujikawa whose results in the previous Basho were very good have not yet gotten Shiro Boshi or win. I think their ranks are relatively too high.
Day 2丏Tosanoumi was defeated by Takanonami with Hikiotoshi.Oginome, whose name was apeared in Banzuke for the first time,started his SUMO life with Shiro Boshi or win.
Day 1. Tosanoumi defeated Yokozuna Akebono to obtain nineth Kinboshi. Kitakachidoki changed in Tachiai, putting down Susanoumi.Takinooto in Makushita made a perfect Yorikiri. Arakuma or Wild Bear played strong Morote Zuki at Tachiai, but he was defeated by Tsukiotoshi.
